- Eric Stonestreet waited until the last second to tell his *Modern Family *costar he was getting married.
- Ferguson recalled on the latest episode of his *Dinner's On Me *podcast that Stonestreet "called me the day before, or maybe two days before" his surprise nuptials to longtime partner Lindsay Schweitzer.
- Stonestreet explained that he and Schweitzer wanted the ceremony to be a surprise to their families, so they opted to send "non-invitation[s]" via phone calls and texts to their closest friends in the days before.**
Some people send out wedding invites years in advance of the big day. Eric Stonestreet is not one of those people.
The *Modern Family *star waited until just two days before his wedding to longtime partner Lindsay Schweitzer before telling his on-screen husband, Jesse Tyler Ferguson. The pair recounted their experiences of Stonestreet's unorthodox approach to his nuptials on the latest episode of Ferguson's *Dinner's On Me *podcast.
Ferguson said he sensed something was up when Stonestreet abruptly canceled his planned visit to New York City last September to see his former costar in a Public Theater production of Shakespeare's *Twelfth Night*.
"You were looking at dates, and it looked like you were maybe going to come one day, and then you were like, 'It's just not going to work out, and I can't tell you why,'" Ferguson related.

"I hate saying it, but we didn't invite anyone to our wedding other than our family," Stonestreet explained. "So the equivalent to an invitation to our wedding was a phone call before the wedding, which was like, 'Hey, this is your non-invitation, but this is because we love you and we want you to know about it first.'"
The actor who played Cameron Tucker opposite Ferguson's Mitchell Pritchett across *Modern Family*'s full series run decided on a group of people who "we called and told" before, and another group who recieved a test "the moment we got married, we just sent it out to everyone, other people."
"I'm a popular person," Stonestreet joked.****
In truth, Stonestreet revealed that he and Schweitzer wanted to surprise their families with the ceremony. But as a public figure, once one person knew chances are everyone was going to find out.

"I'm definitely glad you called me," Ferguson confessed. "I don't think hurt is the right word, but I would have been surprised."
Stonestreet said that he and Schweitzer didn't even tell Schweitzer's twin sons from a previous relationship until the day it happened, "because we didn't want them to have to lie or be weird at school... So when they got home from school, we sat them down and just had a talk with them and told them... yeah, we're having a wedding today."
