First Lady Melania Trump has been absent from public view for weeks, missing a string of high-profile events attended by her husband, according to recent reports.
She did not attend Senator Lindsey Graham’s funeral on July 28. Four days earlier, she missed the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. And on July 22, when the president traveled to the dignified transfer of the remains of four deceased service members, the first lady was nowhere to be seen.
In fact, Melania Trump’s last public appearance was on July 19, nearly one month ago, NBC News reported. On that date, she joined her husband at the FIFA World Cup Final at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
Other appearances have included the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House on June 14. And on February 13, she accompanied Trump as he honored special operations personnel involved in the January operation that captured then-Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Those outings were among 34 public events the Slovenian-born first lady has attended so far in 2026, according to a Newsweekanalysis of photographs. A separate Daily Beast tally found that Melania Trump had appeared publicly on 38 days this year, amounting to roughly one appearance every six days.

By comparison, at this point during Trump’s first term, the first lady had participated in roughly twice as many public events, according to NBC News. A senior adviser told the outlet that Melania Trump “prioritizes results over appearances.”
The Independent has contacted the White House for comment.
The first lady, who reportedly spends significant time in Florida and New York, where Barron Trump is enrolled in college, has previously disappeared from public view for extended periods.

She was absent for roughly a month between January and February, according to Newsweek. August, meanwhile, has historically been among Washington’s quieter months, with relatively few major public events.
As Melania Trump has remained out of view, Trump aide Natalie Harp has seldom strayed far from the president’s side.
In fact, the 35-year-old was reportedly among the small group who joined Trump aboard a military aircraft departing Turkey in July.

Harp, who reportedly helps manage the president’s Truth Social account, also traveled with Trump aboard Marine One on August 11 and August 16. She attended a dignified transfer with the president on July 22 for service members killed during operations in the Middle East, and accompanied him during his May state visit to China — a trip Melania Trump did not attend.
According to New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, Trump considers Harp among his most loyal aides and believes she will never abandon him. Harp has also written encouraging notes and left them in Trump’s “personal spaces.” One read: “You are all that matters to me.”
Harp’s estranged brother has described her relationship with the president as “very unhealthy.”
“No president has cultivated as much loyalty among their staffers and administration officials as President Trump; this is a testament to his commitment to our country and its people,” a White House spokesperson previously told The Independent.
“Natalie Harp is a beloved White House Official,” the spokesperson added, “and the Fake News Media will never understand what it’s like to be as trusted and admired as her.”
