While many celebrities may try to keep their children out of the public eye, Sterling K. Brown has made a conscious decision to make sure everyone knows who his sons are.

The Paradise actor, 49, opened up about why he chooses to share his children online during a recent episode of Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast. When Shepard brought up his desire to keep his daughters anonymous and give them a private life, Brown explained why he feels differently.

Brown, who shares sons Amaré, 10, and Andrew, 14, with his wife Ryan Michelle Bathé, said that he believes that his public persona can actually keep his children safe.

“Your children are obviously white. My children are Black. I feel like the more I put them on social, the safer they are," Brown said during the Feb. 23 episode. "Any proximity that Black boys can have to some sort of celebrity or access, I’m trying to make sure that they make it home."

While Brown does share photos of Amaré and Andrew on social media, he says he attempts to limit how much attention is on them when they're out in public. In order to give them a sense of normalcy, Brown says he often turns down photos with fans.

"If I am out with Ryan and the boys, we have a policy of no pictures. And the policy is because they deserve to have a regular night out. It’s their time," he explained. “Because Ry and I have a certain amount of spotlight or whatnot, doesn’t mean that they should receive less of us.”

Brown continued, "So if we go to an event where they're specifically taking pictures, that's another thing. But if I'm at a soccer game...if I'm at anything, I'll be like like, 'Hey guys, right now I'm just a dad but I appreciate the love.' And most people are so sweet and so cool.'"
