A behemoth of a roller coaster is already reaching new heights at Six Flags Great Adventure, and vertical construction is still ongoing.
On Monday, June 22, the construction of the secretive "Project Purple" roller coaster at the Jackson Township, N.J., theme park reached 315 feet in the air. The coaster, which has yet to be completed, has officially become the tallest structure standing at the park.
The ride's bright purple track and support beams can be seen from miles away, according to a press release shared with PEOPLE. Guests visiting the park this summer can watch the structure grow week by week as officials prepare for its 2027 debut. Construction is expected to continue throughout 2026.

While full details — like a construction timeline, official name and ride statistics — have yet to be announced, Ryan Eldredge, the park's director of sales and marketing, previously told PEOPLE the attraction will only continue to grow.
"The crane will be 450 feet tall, so that gives you some idea about where the ride height will be," Eldredge says. For comparison, Falcon's Flight, the world's tallest coaster at Six Flags Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia reaches 640 feet into the air, according to the ride's manufacturer.
The height will make it "one of the five tallest roller coasters in the world," Eldredge said. The ride will also have "six different records attributed to it."

Among the notable ride elements, Eldredge points out three launches already installed along the track — including a rare inverted launch, where riders will go from about 60 to 80 mph while suspended upside down. But that won't even be the fastest speed.

Eldredge estimated the entire track will be completed by August, with three to four months of safety testing to follow.
The highly anticipated attraction will come two years after the beloved Kingda Ka roller coaster came crashing down in February 2025. The attraction took riders up 45 stories and launched them at 128 mph in under 5 seconds. But Eldredge says roller coaster aficionados should have no worries about how this new ride will compare.
"I think for a guest, seeing it erected as high as it's going to be, and launching in a way that it will, I think it'll be very reminiscent," he said.

Elsewhere in the park, Six Flags Great Adventure reimagined its boardwalk area with the opening of Shoreline Pier at The Boardwalk earlier this month. The land features five attractions, iconic boardwalk food and drink, games and more.
Down south, Six Flags is preparing to open another record-breaking roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. The ride, Tormenta Rampaging Run, is set to be the world's tallest, fastest, longest and first-ever giga (300-400-feet-tall) dive coaster in the world.
The ride was initially scheduled to open on Friday, June 26; however, park officials announced the public opening would be postponed because the testing process is taking longer than expected. Another opening date has yet to be announced.
