Russell Brand recently confessed that he did sleep with a 16-year-old during a recent appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show. He revealed that at the time, he was a 30-year-old immature person who did not realize that his actions were “exploitative.” These comments come amid him facing a series of rape and sexual assault allegations. Earlier this year, he was found not guilty of offenses that allegedly took place in 2009.

During a conversation with Megyn Kelly, Russell Brand opened up about having slept with a 16-year-old when he was 30. He said, “The plain fact of it is, in Europe and in the United Kingdom, where I’m from, the age of consent is 16. And I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30.” However, he admitted that when he was 30, he was much “younger” and “immature,” and he didn’t understand the consequences of his actions.
Speaking about the power difference, he added, “Consensual sex, actually, with a variety of people when there is a strong power differential, because there is when you’re a famous man that has the ability to attract women that I had at that time, I think involves exploitation.”

He accepted that his actions were “exploitative” back then and that he didn’t give careful thought about its consequences, and was just selfish. “I think it is exploitative. I recognize that my sexual conduct in the past was selfish and I did not apply enough consideration, barely any, I suppose, really, to how that sex was affecting other people,” he elaborated.
While Brand has faced several legal troubles, the latest case was last year, when he was charged with two further offenses of rape and sexual assault. He was cleared of those charges earlier this year. Ahead of these, he had also pleaded not guilty to multiple similar charges involving four women, related to alleged incidents that took place in London and Bournemouth between 1999 and 2005 (via BBC).
