Dune enthusiasts are finally getting their first look at December's highly anticipated Dune: Part Three, but Rebecca Ferguson fans may be disappointed to learn she won't have much screen time in the movie.
Ferguson, 42, portrays Timothée Chalamet's onscreen mother and Bene Gesserit member Lady Jessica in the Dune movies. While the character's return is teased in a trailer Warner Bros. released for the movie on Tuesday, March 17, the actress herself told journalist Josh Horowitz on the Monday, March 16 episode of Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast that her appearances in the film will be minimal.
"I just dipped my toe in. I have no sort of comments on it — the script is great, I've read it, I think it's going to be fantastic, but my journey was number one and two," Ferguson said of the franchise.
"I don't even think she was supposed to be in three," she continued. "And then Denis was like, '[Ferguson needs] to have one scene.' And I get one scene. But that was a weird feeling, walking onto a set that you know so well and knowing you don't have a part of it. There's a lot of FOMO and the acceptance of, this is just what it is."
When Horowitz asked to clarify whether Ferguson had read the entire movie's script versus only pages for her character's scene, she added, "Oh, no, no, no. I always read an entire script. I would never go into anything blind. Why would I?"

Writer-director Denis Villeneuve adapted Dune: Part Three from Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah, which is the second book in the Dune novel series. (Part One and Part Two are adapted from the original 1965 novel). The new movie's story sees Chalamet's Paul Atreides reckon with the outcomes of his decisions in 2024's Part Two, 17 years after he becomes emperor of the known universe.

Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Jason Momoa also reprise their roles from the previous two Dune movies in the new installment. Momoa's son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, 17, and Ida Brooke will portray Paul and Chani's twins Leto and Ghanima; Anya Taylor-Joy, who made a surprise cameo in Part Two, will star in the movie as Alia Atreides, Paul's then-unborn sister. Robert Pattinson also enters the franchise as the villain Scytale, who plots to end Paul's reign as emperor.

Brolin, 58, previously shared during an August interview on Happy Sad Confused that his character Gurney Halleck — a key ally of Paul's in the first two movies — also does not have as much screen time in the third movie.
"I've gotten texts [from] people who are also in it who apparently haven't read the script or only read their parts, which I don't understand," he said, while describing a text exchange he shared with Villeneuve, also 58. "I was like, 'Why do all these people [ask], 'Are you here yet [to film the movie]? Are we going to go to the bathhouse in Budapest?' Like, dude, read the script. Do your job."
Dune: Part Three is in theaters Dec. 18.
