Paris Jackson revealed she experienced psychological, emotional, and spiritual abuse at a Utah treatment facility as a teen

She said the facility fostered distrust among clients and left her with nightmares and PTSD for years after leaving

Jackson’s new album, Happiest Day of My Life, will be released on Aug. 21 following her 2020 debut album Wilted

Paris Jackson is opening up about her experience at a treatment center in Utah.

During the latest episode of On Purpose with Jay Shetty on Monday, Aug. 17, Jackson was asked about the facilities, to which she said she was sent after a suicide attempt when she was 15.

“Each one was different. I know some people that have been to the ones that were not as bad or worse,” Jackson, 28, began.

“I definitely left with more PTSD than I went in there with and had nightmares for two or three years about going back after I finally left because I was there for a couple of months,” she continued.

Recalling her experience, Jackson said that she was “one of the lucky ones” who didn’t experience “physical or sexual abuse” — but she did experience other forms of abuse.

“There was definitely a lot of psychological, emotional, spiritual abuse that happened there. Like pitting the clients against each other,” she said, adding that she felt she couldn’t trust her roommate or therapist.

“I can’t trust anybody here because anything you say could put you on the lowest level and you can’t really call your family and tell them because they’re listening,” she said. “They will call your family and be like, ‘Don’t listen to her. She’s lying to you.’ And then you get a consequence... and you’re on meds and you’re zombie-d out and it’s rough.”

She concluded, “You have to learn how to kind of play the game if you want to get out.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2017, Jackson opened up about the suicide attempt and said it was a result of “self-hatred” and “low self-esteem.”

“Thinking that I couldn’t do anything right, not thinking I was worthy of living anymore,” she said.

At the time, she also opened up about spending time at a therapeutic school in Utah and said “it was great for me.”

“I’m a completely different person,” she said. “I was crazy. I was actually crazy. I was going through a lot of, like, teen angst. And I was also dealing with my depression and my anxiety without any help.”

Jackson’s new album, Happiest Day of My Life, will drop on Friday, Aug. 21. The album will follow her 2020 debut album Wilted.
