The Mumford & Sons frontman, 39, gave a few rare comments about his marriage to Carey Mulligan and their home life in an interview with The Guardian published on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Mumford and Mulligan, 40, got married in 2012 and share three kids.

The singer gave a sweet answer when asked about the person he admires the most. "Sickeningly, it’s probably my wife, because she’s a legend," he said.

The couple met at a summer camp when he was 10 and she was 12, and became pen pals. They lost touch for about 10 years before reconnecting and dating. In February 2011, Rolling Stone reported that the actress was seen at a private Mumford & Sons concert held in a basement in Nashville.

After just five months of dating, Mumford proposed to Mulligan in August 2011 while they were on vacation in Somerset, England.

The pair welcomed their first child, daughter Evelyn, in 2015. They had a son named Wilfred two years later and their second daughter in 2023.

Mumford also told The Guardian about a unique at-home guideline he shares with his family. "We have a rule in our house where we don’t say hate," he said.

Elsewhere in the interview, the singer said he’d like to leave his children with “a spirit of generosity.”

Mumford and Mulligan are known to keep their private life under wraps. However, in a 2022 GQ cover story, the singer shared that he and his wife focused on prioritizing their marriage right after they said “I do.”

“We said, ‘The odds are stacked against us. Let’s make that our great work and everything else can come from that, right?’ ” he told the outlet. “The reason I think people don’t stay married is because they don’t realize how much work it takes.”

Last March, Mulligan discussed the release of her movie The Ballad of Wallis Island, which came out the same day as Mumford’s album Rushmere during her Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance.

While sharing that she's listened to all of his musical work, she revealed that Mumford has not seen all of her movies.

"He's seen some of them," the British actress said, adding that she's "okay" with the "Grace" singer not having gone through her entire filmography.

Mumford & Sons debuted their sixth studio album, Prizefighter, on Feb. 20.

"Anyone who has been to a show in the past year will have heard us say it but we are massively humbled and grateful by the support and the opportunity you give us to do this, to make the music we make without compromise, to pursue something great and true every day of our lives and we really believe we have something to share in Prizefighter that is all of that," the band wrote on Instagram in celebration of the release.
