Melania Trump has been noticeably absent from official events alongside Donald Trump ever since the U.S. went to war with Iran.

Following constant threats from Tehran against the Trump family and repeated assassination attempts in the United States, the first lady has refrained from making public appearances.

However, CNN sources believe that the 56-year-old’s notable absence from public life has more to do with her housing situation than the fear of assassination threats.

According to reports, the former model is no longer living at the White House, which is why she was last spotted alongside the president in July 2026.

Melania Trump Reportedly Doesn’t ‘Live at the White House’

During a segment on CNN’s Table for Five, hosted by Abby Phillip, journalist Joanna Coles reflected on Melania Trump’s highly private lifestyle.

Discussing the first lady’s absence from Donald Trump‘s side since the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, Coles speculated about the reason for her notable absence from public view.

Calling Trump the “least visible first lady of the entire century,” Coles wondered, “What is the First Lady doing? The United States has a First Lady, and she is almost never at the president’s side.”

Speaking with other reporters, Coles said she was “pretty confident” that the first lady doesn’t reside in the White House, which could make appearances alongside the president difficult.

“She doesn’t appear to live at the White House. So she either lives in Florida or in New York, which is kind of odd, but she just doesn’t show up,” Coles said.

Following Coles’ comments, NPR journalist Ayesha Rascoe said that in the former model’s absence, the president has been taking over double roles. “Trump is taking a lot of the stuff that a First Lady would do,” Rascoe said.

“He’s redesigning the White House; he’s redecorating. He wants to do everything. He’s taking the First Lady role too,” she joked.

The Trumps’ Parallel Lives and Natalie Harp’s Rising Popularity

Meanwhile, Joanna Coles’ speculation about Melania Trump not residing in the White House comes after biographer Michael Wolff already alleged that the nation’s first couple live separate lives.

In his book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, and several Substack columns, Wolff has mentioned that “Trump and his wife barely speak. There is hardly even the pretense that she lives in the White House.”

“Everybody in the White House is afraid of Melania Trump and her power—that is, if she chooses to use it… At the same time, they think that the relationship between the president and his wife is probably at its lowest point,” he wrote.

Amid Wolff’s commentary on the Trumps’ marriage, the president’s 35-year-old executive assistant, Natalie Harp, is becoming the subject of gossip. As the first lady remains absent, Harp has rarely been far from Trump’s side.

She reportedly manages the president’s Truth Social account, travels with Trump, attends dignified transfer with the president, and even accompanied him during his May state visit to China.
