Nicole Brydon Bloom detailed how she shared her pregnancy news with husband Justin Theroux and his funny reaction
The couple, who married in March 2025, first sparked romance rumors at a Netflix event in early 2023
They recently celebrated their baby shower with an intimate gathering
Justin Theroux was clearly caught off-guard when his wife, Nicole Brydon Bloom, dropped the news that she was pregnant with the couple’s first child.
Bloom shared the news with her husband after he slept in late from working a night shoot.
“I had to wait for him to wake up the next morning, and it was like noon, and I was like, ‘Please get up,’ ” Bloom quipped during an interview on the 3rd Hour of Today. “And then I was gonna tell him, but I was like, ‘He needs his coffee first,’ so I was kind of just sitting there, ready.”
Ultimately, the Paradise star said she shared the news “over breakfast,” noting that her actor hubby, “kind of did the classic thing you see in movies.”

“He was like, ‘How?!’ ” Bloom recalled, laughing. “And I was like, ‘Well, I can walk you through it. It was a team effort.’ ”
Of the pregnancy, she added, “We weren’t entirely planning it, but we were excited to start a family.”
As for how she’s feeling these days, Bloom shared, “We’re feeling good, you know. We’ve got the nursery on its way. And yeah, we’re just feeling very, very grateful and lucky.”

PEOPLE confirmed the couple were expecting their first child together in December.

"I feel good. I was sick in the first trimester, so that was a bummer, but the second trimester has been going really well," Bloom told PEOPLE at the 2026 Critics' Choice Awards in January. "I feel very lucky and grateful for that."

The couple tied the knot in March 2025 after PEOPLE exclusively reported their engagement in August 2024. Theroux proposed in Italy with a ring that features a 4-carat emerald cut diamond and a band that includes both his and her birthstones.

Back in February 2023, Bloom and Theroux first sparked romance rumors when they were spotted at a Netflix event together. Months later they were photographed kissing during a date.
Though they’ve walked the red carpet together at multiple events, the pair have still kept their romance mostly private.
"I want all of my relationships to exist within the four walls of whatever room we're in," Theroux told Esquire in 2023. "Having been in a public relationship, it’s much more fun not being in a public relationship."
Last month the couple enjoyed a joint baby shower. A source told PEOPLE that the party for baby Theroux, which was hosted at Jac's on Bond in New York City, was an "intimate celebration," describing it as "perfect."
"Rather than a traditional baby shower, they gathered for a more intimate celebration. It was perfect," the insider told PEOPLE. "Nicole looked stunning. They both seemed very happy. Guests enjoyed cocktails and small bites."
