Jack Nicholson turned 89 on April 22, and his daughter, Lorraine Nicholson, shared a rare recent photo of the retired actor in honor of the milestone event.

On Thursday, Lorraine posted to her Instagram Story a throwback image of her father smoking a cigar while wearing a bright red shirt.

The following slide showed Jack on his 89th birthday, smiling with his hands together. Lorraine captioned the image with his age.

Legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, 82, also appears on the image, with the performer seated on a couch behind Jack.

New images of Jack are rare, as the retired star doesn't often make public appearances. He did, however, attend the *Saturday Night Live* 50th anniversary special in New York City in February 2025.

At the special, Jack introduced a segment fronted by his *Anger Management* costar Adam Sandler.

To date, Jack made his last big-screen performance opposite Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, and Paul Rudd in the 2010 comedy *How Do You Know, *which* *released roughly three years after his last major hit, *The Bucket List*, which earned $175 million globally in 2007.

Prior to his *SNL50* appearance, Jack's last significant television appearance came 10 years prior in celebration of *SNL*'s 40th anniversary in 2015.

Lorraine, who turned 36 on April 16, is one of two children Jack shares with actress Rebecca Broussard.

The former couple's son, Ray Nicholson, is also an actor, and even appeared in 2024's *Smile 2** *in* *a scene that paid homage to his father's horror legacy in *The Shining*.

"I think I'm always trying to reference *The Shining*. With Ray, he auditioned for that role. The audition was so strong. Of course, Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors of all time. I love that Ray has very strong genes, and his smile, instantly, I was like, 'Oh my God, it's like looking at a young Jack'" Finn told EW of casting Ray at the time. "What really struck me was how well he slipped into that venomous but charming character he's playing in the film. He could bring again that feeling of, I'm really, really anxious, but part of it is also tickling me."
