Is Rashee Rice out of the season? Injury update for Chiefs WR
The Kansas City Chiefs were eliminated from playoff contention following their Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
As a result, Kansas City has begun the process of shutting down its injured players for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season. That includes the team's top wide receiver, Rashee Rice.

Is Rashee Rice out for the season?
Yes, Rice has been ruled out for the rest of the 2025 NFL season. The Chiefs placed him on injured reserve (IR) ahead of their Week 17 matchup against the Denver Broncos as the 25-year-old continues to recover from a concussion.
Rice missed the Chiefs' Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans after being placed into the NFL's concussion protocol Dec. 15. He was able to play the entirety of the team's 16-13 loss to the Chargers but reported concussion-like symptoms the day following the game.
Rice isn't the only player the Chiefs placed on season-ending IR before Week 17. They also did the same with backup quarterback turned starter Gardner Minshew, depth receiver Tyquan Thornton and starting cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson.
The Chiefs also placed quarterback Patrick Mahomes on IR ahead of Week 16 after he tore his ACL near the end of his team's Week 15 loss to the Chargers.

Rice was suspended the first six games of the NFL season for violating the league's personal conduct policy and will miss the final three contests of the year because of his injury.
Across the eight games Rice did play, the SMU product recorded 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns while adding 20 yards and a score on the ground. He ranked second on the team in targets (78) behind only Travis Kelce (96) despite playing seven fewer games than the veteran tight end to date.
Rice had a 106.6 passer rating when targeted, per Pro Football Focus, and ranked No. 1 overall in the NFL in yards after the catch (YAC) per reception (8.1 yards).

The Chiefs have five healthy wide receivers on their depth chart after Rice and Thornton were placed on IR. Below is a look at the pecking order within the unit:
