Courtney Love Reveals She ‘Almost Died’ in 2019 While Making Her Long-Awaited New Album

Courtney Love opened up about how she “almost died” making her new album

“I was in the hospital mostly but when I wasn’t all I did was write & record it,” the Hole frontwoman captioned a Friday, Aug. 14 Instagram post

Courtney Love opened up about how she “almost died” from a health scare in 2019 after moving from Los Angeles to London.

In an Instagram Reel shared on Friday, Aug. 14, the Hole musician told fans she’d be taking a break from social media over the next few weeks and addressed the status of her next album.

“A lot of you are asking where my record is at. It’s done. It’s kind of been done,” said Love, 62. “It’s a really good record. I put a lot into it.”

She then detailed experiencing illness after moving to London. While she didn’t share her diagnosis, Love recalled how her body “exploded” and how she was in and out of the hospital.

Love also reflected on Hole’s most recent album — 2010’s Nobody’s Daughter — and how it was negatively received at the time.

The “Doll Parts” singer said the reactions were “spectacularly humbling” at the time, recalling performing at a festival at 11 a.m. while Limp Bizkit and 30 Seconds to Mars were the headliners.

However, Love seemed optimistic about the future of music.

“People sound great live. The girlies are amazing,” she said, before adding: “I will be back.”

In the post’s caption, Love wrote that she wanted to share an update about her record.

“When I made , it i believed this was my last record so I made the record I always wanted to make . I was in the hospital mostly but when I wasn’t all I did was write & record it,” she wrote. “I want to tour more than anything. & I want to sing . That’s what keeps my soul & body happy .”Love then paid tribute to the “incredible people” and “were patient with the trauma,” including Butch Walker, Michael Stipe, Will Sargent, Melissa Auf der Maur, Billie Joe Armstrong and more.

“I’m not going to tell people red is blue anymore,” she wrote. “Thank you for giving me the grace I need to prepare how to enter the world again.”

In 2021, Love opened up about how she “almost died” from anemia one year prior.

“People, I’ve been sad, and extremely sick,” she wrote on Instagram. “Debilitated , in indescribable pain and in August at 97 pounds almost died in hospital from anemia( hemoglobin I had none ).”

Love then claimed she “was stigmatized for being an addict” for nine months by physicians “while in debilitating acute pain.”

However, she revealed she was “so grateful” that she discovered “the most empathic wise pain management dr” who addressed her health issues.

“But I’m so good now,” Love told fans at the time, explaining that CBD oil has “removed ALMOST ALL the physical symptoms . And all the pain.”
