Harper Grace opened up in a recent interview about her decision to announce a fake engagement on Instagram to promote her new song, "If Daddy Says No"

Several fans thought the post was real and shared their congratulations online and questions about who the country singer's mystery fiancé was

Grace revealed that she "got so into just the artistic take" on her new song because it "means so much to me"

Country singer Harper Grace is getting candid about her fake engagement.

On Jan. 28, Grace, 24, shared a set of photos on Instagram showing herself smiling while showing off a large diamond ring on that finger as she placed a hand on an unseen man’s shoulder. “kinda obsessed with how these came out.….. @photosbyzayne thanks for capturing these wonderful photos for us!! excited to share more with yall!! 💍🙌 #fiance💍 #yes (if daddy says no…. 2/27/26 🎵🎶),” she captioned the post.

Fans quickly believed the engagement news was real, with several wishing the country star congratulations in the comments. “YAY! Congratulations girl! So happy for you!” one fan wrote, while another asked when her fiancé’s “face reveal” would be.

However, a few weeks later, on Feb. 15, Grace revealed on Instagram that the engagement wasn’t real, alongside a behind-the-scenes video showing tidbits from her new music video. It was also revealed that the date listed on the Jan. 28 Instagram engagement post was actually the release date of the music video for the song instead of a wedding date.

The musician captioned the post, “plot twist: the only thing we committed to was the song.”

She also shared a set of videos with the title “I faked my engagement,” and explained that the reason she did so was to promote her new song, “If Daddy Says No.”

Following the release of the new track, Grace opened up in an interview with Country Now published on Feb. 27 about how she came up with the idea for the pretend engagement and the true meaning behind it all. "Some people are probably going to think I’m crazy for faking my own engagement," Grace said. "But honestly, I got so into just the artistic take on it because the song means so much to me…"

She revealed to Country Now that she was in love with a man who she thought would become her future husband, but that her father would not give his approval for her to marry him — which was very important to her — and they ultimately went their separate ways.

“I don’t want to downplay anybody’s real engagement or anybody’s real call-off of an engagement or anyone’s real wedding… I want to be married, I want to be a wife, I want to be a mom. I really, really desire a spouse one day,” she further explained. “But with this song in particular, I was like, I want to play into this creative, vulnerable, artistic side as much as I possibly can, and what better way than to fake my engagement? So that’s what I did.”

Grace jokingly added that the next time people saw her with a diamond ring on her left hand, it would be the real deal — and she would make sure to secure her dad’s approval.
