Christian McCaffrey is fully embracing fatherhood.
In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE for his partnership with Intuit QuickBooks, the San Francisco 49ers running back said that seeing his 5-month-old daughter, Colette, before games is “everything.”
"My family is one of the reasons I play," he says over Zoom. "Whenever you get to see them right before you go out to battle, it's a quick reminder of why you're doing it."
"It means everything to have my family there," he adds. "I got to watch my dad play when I was a kid. I know my daughter won't remember it, but just knowing she was there and able to be present when I played means a lot to me."

When asked about Colette's game-day outfits, McCaffrey laughs. "Yeah, if you know her mom, she'll dress her up, that's for sure," he says, referencing his wife, Olivia Culpo.
Earlier this month, Culpo, 33, shared a carousel of photos on Instagram after bringing Colette to cheer on McCaffrey during the San Francisco 49ers’ game against the Tennessee Titans.
For the game, Colette sported 49ers colors, including a white fuzzy hat and a red sweater that looked like a mini version of her dad's jersey, complete with his number, 23, stitched onto the sleeve. Created by Stitched by Rox and Doloris Petunia, the sweater also featured the phrase "let's go" embroidered on the back in white thread.
"NINERS WINNNNNNN 😍😍," Culpo wrote in the caption, celebrating the 49ers’ 37-24 victory over the Titans.

During the interview, McCaffrey, 29, also opened up about how his family plans to celebrate the holidays amid a busy NFL season.
"Our lives are so hectic, especially during football season," he says. "Sometimes you're playing on Christmas, practicing, doing treatments — it's chaotic. Christmas has always been that way for me. We're just blessed if we can get our family together — that's the tradition."
"Once I'm done playing, we'll hone in on holiday traditions, but for now, getting as many family members together is a huge win," he adds.
