*Outlander* is a show for the ages.
The sweeping, romantic epic, full of time travel and battles and corsets, has given viewers seven memorable seasons of the love story between Claire Randall (played Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan.
Ahead of the show's eighth and final season, Balfe and Heughan themselves recap all the drama that's happened so far. And there has been a lot, starting with the fact that sometimes Claire and Jamie's love isn't just challenged by long distances, but also the fact they're not in the same time period.

They remind us that, in season 1, Claire was introduced as a World War II nurse, who's married to Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies). After the violence ends, the couple visits Scotland, where she accidentally travels back in time 200 years. Just as surprising is that, when she gets there, she meets her husband's ancestor, Black Jack Randall, who's also played by Menzies, but also Heughan's Scottish highlander Jamie Fraser. What begins as an arranged marriage between Claire and Jamie quickly becomes a sweeping love story.
Since then, the adventures have been non-stop, whether they take place in Paris during the reign of Louis XIV, Boston during the American Revolution, or in North Carolina, where the Fraser's eventually made their home, Fraser Ridge.
For Balfe, it was difficult to say goodbye.

When* *does* Outlander* season 8 come out? All about the final season (and how it addresses that last cliffhanger)
"I absolutely sobbed like a crazy person, when they said cut," she told ** of filming her final scene as Claire. "We all had some champagne and went around hugging and crying in people's faces."
Heughan was grateful to have his longtime leading lady by his side, noting that it "felt so right to finish it with Caitríona."

Executive producers Matthew B. Roberts and Maril Davis have teased that the final moments of the show will be, well, epic.
"What we want is a really authentic season of *Outlander*," Roberts told EW. "We weren't going to try to make every episode a very special episode of *Outlander*. I wanted this to fit fully into the series, and I think we successfully have done that."
Davis promised an ending that's "very satisfying" for the audience, and one that she hopes "serves as our love letter" to the series.
*Outlander*'s final season premieres March 6 on Starz.
