When The Voicereturns on Monday night for its 29th season, it’s the Battle of the Champions, meaning that all three coaches for the first time in the series’ history are previous winners: Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and John Legend.
To add some extra fun to the season, The Voice has added a new twist. The coach who gets the most artists who’ve earned a three-chair turn will get something extra. That coach earns a “Super Steal” for the Battles. This coveted prize can only be used once and trumps any other coach’s attempt to steal, guaranteeing a win, so needless to say, Kelly, John and Adam are pulling out all the stops to make sure that they’re the winner.
In this video, Adam gets a little assist in the Blind Auditions from Alexia’s Jay’s 9-year-old-son Matthew. Watch the video and read the story to find out how and why.

The 31-year-old mother from Mobile, AL performs Carole King's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” and when she’s done with her performance the coaches tell her to bring Matthew up on stage.
“Hey, Matthew, do you sing?” Kelly asks.
He doesn’t respond so Alexia explains, “He’s my shy baby.”
“So he does sing,” John says.
“He does sing,” Alexia confirms.
“Who do you listen to Matthew?” John innocently asks.

“Maroon 5,” Matthew says when prompted by his mom.
Adam gets up, claps, celebrates with arm pumps, and then gives Matthew a fist bump.

“Look at him, he’s so pumped,” host Carson Daly points out.
“Oh, no that backfired,” John realizes.
“That was a great question,” Adam says.
“Oh, my goodness. I never should have asked,” John says.
“Honestly, I love you so much John,” Adam says. And then he gives Alexia his pitch, “You have that voice that motivates me even more to say, ‘This is the best voice in the competition. This is what has to win and we have to make the right choices. And I have that feeling that I don’t get often. I think we all do. You’re one of the best we’ve ever seen.”
Does Matthew’s love for Maroon 5 guarantee that Alexia will pick Adam as her coach? Tune in on Monday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC to find out. Streams next day on Peacock.
